Offshore Oil Rig Production in the U.S.

It can be mind-boggling the amount of oil that offshore oil rigs produce each month and year.  And as it stands, the United States remains the top producer of oil and gas worldwide. Besides, it looks like the U.S. has made history once again in April of 2019. Crude oil production and lease condensate in the U.S. has now reached over 12 million barrels per day (b/d). This great news comes directly from the EIA’s latest publication of Petroleum Supply Monthly.

It was just in August of last year that oil production reached over 11 million b/d. This month, however, marks the first time that national monthly crude oil production levels surpassed 12 million b/d. So, which oil rig production sites brought in the most crude oil and what does this mean for the U.S.? Explore more below with MSI Pipe Protection Technologies.

Highest Producing Offshore Oil Rigs

As it stands, Texas and the Federal Offshore Gulf of Mexico (GOM) are the two largest crude oil production areas in the nation. Economists project that both sites will reach record levels of production this month at close to five million and two million b/d respectively. Also, Oklahoma’s top site was the third leading producer. They happily reached a record production level of 617,000 b/d.

Onshore Oil Rigs Also Continue to Increase

When we look at the States’ onshore crude oil production, their increase is due primarily by the developing low permeability (tight) formations. They continue using hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling. In fact, the EIA estimates that crude oil production from this reached 7.4 million b/d in April. That is roughly 61% of the U.S. total.

The West Texas Permian Basin and eastern New Mexico continue to lead record U.S. oil production growth. For example, the Permian Basin accounts for roughly 63% of Texas and 96% of New Mexico crude oil production. Since January 2018 to now, crude oil production in the state of Texas increased by 1.1 million b/d or about 28%.
