What Are Hammer Unions?
Top manufacturers have developed and designed steel hammer unions to enjoin mud tanks promptly. The reason for this is the convenience, as you won’t have to deal with the flange connections at all. In fact, hammer unions can still absolutely ensure tight non-leak seals even when operators don’t properly align the mud tanks. However, you may not be able to make ideal connections, or you may experience significant safety issues if the integrity of your hammer unions is compromised.
Hammer unions have three general parts to their make-up: the nut, the male end, and female end.
- The externally threaded portion is the male part. This is typically welded on the end of a pipe already connected to the tank wall.
- Next, we move to the female part. The pipe extends further through the nuts towards the O-ring to reach the female part.
- Then, operators will hammer and tighten them together.
